What Are The Causes of Knee, Hip and Ankle Pain?

A variety of factors can cause knee, hip and ankle pain, which is a common problem. Below are some of the most common causes of knee pain:

  • Injuries. Chiropractors note injuries such as sprains, strains, and tears can cause knee pain. They can occur due to accidents, sports, or physical activity. These injuries can range in severity and in some cases, may require surgery to repair the damage.
  • Arthritis. It is a common condition that causes inflammation and damage to the joint. Osteoarthritis, which is a degenerative condition, is the most common type of arthritis. Age, genetics, or wear and tear on the joint over time can cause it.
  • Bursitis. This condition occurs when small fluid-filled sacs that cushion the joints become inflamed. This can cause pain and swelling in the knee.
  • Tendonitis. It is a condition that occurs when the tendons that connect the muscles to the bones become inflamed. From a chiropractic point of view, knee pain can cause pain and stiffness in the knee.
  • Patellar tracking disorder. This condition occurs when the kneecap (patella) does not move correctly.

 

 

What Are The Symptoms of Knee, Hip and Ankle Pain?

 

1. Not being able to maintain your normal active lifestyle. If you find yourself not able to do the activities you normally enjoy, such as tennis, golf, cycling, or walking, you should see a physician.

2. Pain that gets worse at night and interferes with sleep. Inflammation, which is your body’s reaction to pain, tends to intensify at night. This inflammation can trigger higher levels of pain.

3. Catching, popping, or locking. This is a sign that the cartilage in the joint has torn or that bits of cartilage has broken off in the joint space. The cartilage may wear away completely if it is left untreated.

4. Difficulty doing simple tasks. Some patients will experience difficulty putting on shoes and socks or doing other simple activities, such as bending down.

5. Swelling. This could also be a sign that the cartilage in the joint is breaking down. The cartilage may wear out completely if it is left untreated.

 

How Can Chiropractic Help?

One day after work, I experienced pain deep within the right rhomboid area, right shoulder blades and neck pains. It felt like a stiff neck but more intense. After 2 weeks, hoping it would naturally go away, it didn’t. It was very uncomfortable and sometimes painful which resulted in me taking some pain killers. So that’s when I decided to try Chiro. I was assigned with Dr. Siew Wei at the Rivervale Mall Branch and was advised to go for a 20 session package, which I did. After about 4 sessions, is when I started to feel some improvement. Yes, it takes time and it’s not an immediate result. By the 10th Session, most of the pain was gone and by the 18th session. I’m back to normal. Have been with Livewell Sengkang about 3 months now, and have nothing but good stuff to say about them. Firstly the service from the front desk is great, with very quick replies and very flexible whenever I have to make last minute changes to my time slot. Very glad with the friendliness of the staff and how convenient they make my booking of sessions! As for my doctor, Dr Kenny gave clear explanations from the very start, is extremely friendly and easy to talk to, which I appreciate. Went here to correct my neck posture as well as my hunchback, which I do see myself improving and being more conscious about as the sessions go on. Feel a lot lighter and easier to stand straight after each session. Overall a very comfortable experience, really recommend!
